Description of the Tadpole of Ptychadena uzungwensis (Amphibia: Anura: Ptychadenidae) from the Southern Udzungwa Mountains, Tanzania
The tadpole of Ptychadena uzungwensis is described from material collected at Mufindi, southern Udzungwa Mountains, Tanzania. We provide a detailed description of the tadpole based on an ontogenetic series, including color photographs of living specimens and buccopharyngeal morphology. Identity was confirmed by rearing tadpoles through metamorphosis and through DNA bar coding. The tadpole has a keratodont formula of 1/2 and generally resembles other species of Ptychadena. Diagnostic features of known tadpoles of East African species of Ptychadena are provided and discussed.Abstract
